I was enjoying my homemade applesauce in my oatmeal today at work and a co-worker asked me how to make and canned applesauce without poisoning herself! There are very easy to follow recipes available that are approved by the USDA. Most canning recipes already take into account Ph etc so all you need to do is follow the recipe and then follow the steps on canning. My favorite website for recipes, tips and products is www.pickyourown.org. This web page is updated with new recipes and seasonally appropriate tips. They also have links to lots of local farms so if you want to pick some apples for your applesauce or cucumbers to make pickles this is a great place for information. A good page to get stared on is http://www.pickyourown.org/allaboutcanning.htm. This gives you more information then you probably ever wanted to know about canning, freezing and making jellies and jams. Happy cooking!!!

Jams, jellies and preserves make great gifts and are a nice compliment to holiday cookie trays. I usually make a spicy red pepper jelly this time of year to pass out. The bright red color looks great with other holiday gifts.

This article Power 9 by Blue Zones takes research done on older people from across the world to see what traits help people live a long and full life. No surprise nutrition and what we eat plays a part but the thing that is so great about this article is its holistic approach. Not one thing is going to get you there on its own. They have highlighted nine areas that will help you reach a ripe old age. Also available on the website is a questionaire of 36 questions that will give you a score card of how you are doing. No matter what we are doing right now I think we can always work towards making our lives healthier and fuller!

Hi Jeanne!

I know I’m probably the last person you expected to get a recipe idea from but I made a really tasty and healthy lunch that I wanted to share since I know you put healthy recipes on your website. I got Joseph’s flax, oat bran and whole wheat wraps and spread some roasted red pepper hummus on it. Then I added spring mix lettuce, red and green peppers, red onion and avocado to it and rolled it up. It was pretty tasty. Don’t feel like you have to use it. No pressure. I’m certainly no Betty Crocker! Just thought it was a pretty good lunch idea.

I’m trying to be healthy and I thought it was pretty good! Not bad for a rookie!

Thanks Deb! That is a really great lunch idea; healthy, full of fiber and certainly fits the new nutrition guideline!!!

Anyone else have lunch ideas you would like to share? We always love to hear of a good meal Rockie or Pro! If you do, send us your recipes and comments or let us know on facebook.

Welcome to the new Weigh To Go! Nutrition Services. We have been in business since 2006 and were recently inspired to narrow our focus after attending FNCE – the national nutrition conference in November. As you can see we have changed our website, are now on face book and started a recipe blog to reflect our new focus – food.

Liz and I have seen the challenges of talking in an office and teaching clients how to implement healthy cooking at home. Many clients make comments like “Can’t you come into my kitchen and cook for me?” That is why we decided to make this our focus at Weigh To Go! Nutrition Services. We are now providing personal chef services “Dietitians in Your Kitchen”, In home cooking classes, group classes and cooking parties.

Please look over our services. If you do not see what you are looking for let us know and we will customize our services to meet your needs. Thank you looking at our new re-vamped Weigh To Go! Nutrition Services.

-Jeanne & Liz
